A BOSTON CONSULTING GROUP MATRIX ('BCG MATRIX') is a MARKETING PLANNING TOOL used in business to analyse a company’s product portfolio based on MARKET GROWTH RATE (%) and RELATIVE MARKET SHARE (%).
This way it is clear to see that If a product is deemed to have a large market share of a growing market then they should be promoted more, whereas a product that has a low market share of a stagnant (not growing market) shouldn't be promoted and the funds should be used elsewhere.
The matrix identifies FOUR DISTINCT LOCATIONS FOR a company's PRODUT PORTFOLIO.
Note: The size of each circle on the matrix represents the total revenue earnt by each product. The four sectors created by the matrix can be analysed in the following ways.
