--2.2.2 THE ROLE OF MANAGEMENT--
--FUNCTIONS OF MANAGEMENT--
--PLANNING--
PLANNING refers to a function that occurs PRE-IMPLEMENTATION, meaning that it is the time the manager 'plans-ahead'.

ORGANISING: refers to a function that also occurs pre-implementation, as it is the time period when the manager makes sure everyone knows their role and who should go where and what they should do.

COMMANDING: refers to a function that occurs DURING-IMPLEMENTATION, as it INVOLVES GIVING INSTRUCTIONS whilst the activity is being conducted.

--CONTROLLING--

"Delegation as the class monitor of my IGCSE Bus Studies class is very important to me as it motivates...,,"
--2.2.3 LEADERSHIP STYLES--
Let's have a bit of harmless fun shall we? For each leadership style choose a teacher that you think most closely characterizes each and make contextualise in terms of their teaching style.
I have done my own one to help you out. Do you agree???
'The cult of Bounous'
"Mr. Bounous uses a paternalistic style of teaching, in that all his students view him as a father figure (NO not a creepy uncle!), who uses praise and 'tough love' in the form of smiles and frowns respectively, to teach us the 'IB-Bus. Mgt. way of doing things'. His tremendous efforts to help improve our understanding via his amazing website and question banks has bought him our undying loyalty and we would happily go to war for him. He still makes all the major decisions regarding our study of IB Business Mgt., such as test content and pace, though he does offer us a chance to give input which is nice, though it's generally ignored, which can be demotivating. Still though, our strong bond means we really try our best to reward his efforts with good grades so that he doesn't get disappointed, and truly if we would be lost without him, Amen!"
--WHEN TO USE DEMOCRATIC LEADERSHIP?-
DEMOCRATIC LEADERSHIP is more suitable than autocratic leadership in situations where teamwork, creativity, and collaboration are important. Here are some specific examples:
WHEN YOU WANT INPUT FROM OTHERS: In a team or group setting, getting different ideas and perspectives can lead to better decisions. Democratic leadership encourages everyone to contribute, which is useful when creativity or problem-solving is needed.
BUILDING TEAM MORALE: In environments where people feel valued and heard, they are more motivated. Democratic leadership fosters a sense of belonging and teamwork.
COMPLEX PROBLEMS: When an issue is complicated and requires multiple viewpoints to solve, it’s better to involve the group. Democratic leaders can gather information from all members and make informed decisions.
--WHEN TO USE AUTOCRATIC LEADERSHIP?--
AUTOCRATIC LEADERSHIP is more suitable in situations where QUICK DECISIONS NEED TO BE MADE or when strict control is necessary.
DURING EMERGENCIES: In situations like a natural disaster or a crisis, decisions need to be made fast. An autocratic leader can quickly take charge and give clear instructions without waiting for group input.
FOR ROUTINE TASKS THAT REQUIRE NO CREATIVITY: When tasks are routine or require little creativity: In cases where the work is straightforward, like in factories or on an assembly line, autocratic leadership can be effective because it keeps things running smoothly with clear orders.
WHEN THE LEADER HAS SPECIALISED KNOWLEDGE: If the leader is an expert in a field and the team relies on that expertise, it might make sense for them to take control and make decisions without needing input from others.
WHEN THERE IS A LACK OF EXPERIENCE: If the team is inexperienced or unsure of what to do, an autocratic leader can provide strong guidance and direction.
